Engaging in mail art allows for a network of relationships to be established and developed. As a number of exhibitions I have been involved with question the ideology of a conventional gallery space, the engagement in mail art allows artists to develop networks via the postal system and removes the dependence on galleries to exhibit work.
I have been involved in mail art since September 2012 under the alias of ‘Doris Day the Magpie Bird,’ who has become a compulsive hoarder and collector of all things shiny. The participation in mail art also highlights the use and function of an archive. Below shows my archive of all the work received under my alternate alias.
During this time, I created and established a number of networks both locally and internationally with my furthest corespondance being in San Francisco.
