One of the key notions involved in Time//Space//Place was that it provoked the thought, does art have to live in galleries?
The group exhibition was held in several locations around York city center where time based pieces and performances works were carried out. The same empty shop as previously used in The Living Room was used as a ‘hub’ and provided a base to the exhibition. Photographs and video works were exhibited as documentation of previous time based works. Visitors were also provided with information about several live artworks happening in the city.
We wanted to encourage people who wouldn’t necessarily step inside a gallery, to experince art away from this tradiaitonal setting.
“We have now reached a stage where we see not the art but the space first” – Brian O’Doherty
